The LEO Foundation is a Danish independent, commercial foundation that funds innovative research worldwide, contributing to advancements in dermatology. Prof. Lukas Sommer received a grant for his research project "Repair Glia: An Overlooked Cell Type Orchestrating Skin Wound Healing". Prof. Sommer's lab found recently that peripheral glia dedifferentiate into repair glia after injury, promoting healing through signaling. Thanks to the funding he will explore how repair glia contribute to skin wound healing using advanced mouse models and 3D human skin cultures. This research could lead to new treatments for improving wound healing by targeting these mechanisms.
