About us
The Institute of Anatomy at the University of Zurich blends classical anatomical teaching with cutting-edge life sciences research. Situated at the Irchel campus alongside other preclinical institutions, we are a center for discovery, learning, and innovation.
Research
Our core focus is Tissue Plasticity in Health and Disease, explored through a multidisciplinary network of research groups. We contribute to local and international initiatives, including Clinical and University Research Priority Programs, Swiss National Science Foundation projects, and international consortia, bringing innovative methods and state-of-the-art approaches to the table.
Teaching
We cover the full spectrum of anatomy—from gross anatomy and histology to cell biology and embryology—across the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Science, and ETH Zurich. Our teaching is hands-on and varied: Lectures, practical courses, and problem-oriented learning equip students with essential knowledge and skills. Each year, numerous MD and PhD degrees are awarded to our students.
Resources & Training
In research, we provide a modern infrastructure, share central resources, and maintain close connections with the Core Facilities of the University of Zurich. This creates ideal conditions for excellent research and collaboration across research groups.
We support learning with a rich Anatomical collection and innovative digital learning resources. Beyond undergraduate education, we also offer postgraduate courses in clinical anatomical skills.
