About us

The Institute of Anatomy is part of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zurich. It is located with other preclinical institutions at the Irchel campus.

The institute combines modern life-sciences research with classical anatomical teaching. A broad spectrum of research activities links the institute to several research disciplines and brings-in valuable expertise, innovative methodologies and state-of-the-art approaches. We participate in local Clinical and University Research Priority Programs, Swiss National Science Foundation programs and international research consortia.

The Institute of Anatomy covers the whole spectrum of anatomical teaching including gross anatomy, histology, cell biology, and embryology in study programs at the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Science and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ). Members of the institute teach in various forms, such as lectures, practical courses, and problem-oriented learning. Several doctoral degrees (MDs and PhDs) are achieved by our students each year. An anatomical collection and innovative e-learning resources support the teaching. In addition, we offer postgraduate courses in clinical anatomical skills.
