The Odyssey® CLx uses an infrared detector to quantitatively measure infrared fluorescence from an appropriately tagged secondary antibody. It is an alternative to standard fluorescence imaging given that it is able to eliminate background fluorescence from samples providing clear and sharp bands. Ideal for Western blots, this system utilizes direct infrared fluorescence detection to quantify low abundant proteins.
It is capable of two-color imaging so two different proteins or two forms of the same protein can be detected on the same Western blot. Another unique capability of this instrument is its ability to image "in cell Westerns" wherein a Western blot has been performed on cells growing in culture dishes or 96-well plates.
